There is a good chance that you rarely if ever look at the foundation or crawl space of your Matthews, N.C., home or business. If they begin having problems, though, the signs will be hard to miss.
Structural or water problems in your foundation or crawl space can impact anything from a basement floor to a chimney, the walls to the air quality within them.
And that is why it is important to get foundation and crawl space problems fixed. If you don’t fix the root cause of the issues, the symptoms will keep getting worse. And along with getting worse, they likely also will get more expensive to repair.
Tar Heel Foundation Repair Services has experience fixing both foundations and crawl spaces, so we know what solution will best repair your specific problem.
Because a building’s foundation supports the entire structure, when it begins to fail, a lot of problems pop up.
These include:
We are experts in foundation failure and repair, and our team of foundation repair professionals will be able to diagnose what is causing the problems and offer recommendations on how to fix them.
Tar Heel Foundation Solutions has a wide variety of products to help you with any foundation failure problems you may be experiencing.
So no matter what problem you might have, we can promise to help in any way we can to provide the best service we have to offer. We will help you protect you, your family, and your home against any foundation problems.
If your home’s foundation is falling victim to settlement issues, there is a good chance the solution will involve underpinning. At Tar Heel, we use ECP helical piers and push piers to stabilize foundations when issues arise with the underlying soil.
The piers are sunk or screwed deep into the ground until they reach bedrock or a load-bearing strata of soil. The are then attached to brackets we connect to your foundation so that the load of the house is transferred from the weakened soil onto the piers.
Using piers we can not only re-level your foundation but also prevent the issues from recurring in the future.
If your Matthews home has a crawl space, there is a good chance you don’t think about it too much. It is an area, however, that if it isn’t properly cared for can cause a variety of problems in your home.
These can range from annoying (musty odors and pests infestations) to structural (rotting floor joists) to health hazards (mold).
In most cases the cause of all of these issues is the same: moisture.
Whether your crawl space floods or just has excess levels of humidity, high amounts of moisture wreak havoc on crawl spaces
Dark, wet crawl spaces are perfect breeding grounds for both insects and mold. You probably know that the insects won’t simply stay in the crawl space, but unless you completely seal it off, the mold spores won’t either. This can both cause mild respiratory problems or inflame those of people with underlying respiratory conditions.
The moisture also can lead to wood rot. When the beams or floor joists begin to rot, you will notice it in the floors above as they become almost spongy to walk on.
When these problems happen, the solution must be 2-fold.
If your floors are starting to sag, they must be supported. There are two possible solutions we offer.
First, if the beams or joists are too severely damaged to support the structure even with assistance, they must be replaced.
Second, if the beams or joists are weakened but not severely enough damaged to warrant full replacing, we can also add cinder block columns within the crawl space to provide additional support for the wooden structure.
Repairing the damage caused to the crawl space is necessary. It will soon be pointless, however, if you don’t take steps to prevent the problems from happening again.
That is where crawl space encapsulation comes in.
With crawl space encapsulation we install a vapor barrier on both the floors and the walls. This, along with other crawl space waterproofing measures, prevent excess moisture from seeping into the crawl space.
If you have crawl space moisture issues, encapsulation is a necessary step to keeping your home healthy.
